Doot, Little Feet

My Uncle Harry used to call me "Connie, the cat, with the doot, little feet!"
In my mind, I picture a small, graceful, person.
He cursed me!

As a child, I had normal, small, feet but as I got older, my feet grew like crazy! While in high school, there was a shoe store called "The Dollhouse." It had the cutest, strappiest shoes but the largest size was a size 9. In high school my feet were a size 9 but that size of shoe just didn't look as cute as the size 5s and I felt like Cinderella's step sister! My other uncle, who realized I DIDN"T have "doot, little feet" would say, "It takes a large foundation to hold up a mansion and a small foundation to hold up an outhouse!" (No offense to people with small feet - he just wanted me to feel better)

After having my first two children, my shoes size was a 10. After a few more children, I wore a 10 w i d e! Now...size 11! What's going on? There must be some perks to having big feet.

Famous Footwear doesn't carry a size 11 but they can get it and will ship that large sized shoe to your home with no additional charge.

So...now I get a package in the mail! Woo-hoo!
I really get my money's worth when I get a pedicure!

Look at all the junk--er--I mean precious treasures that fit in a size 11 shoebox! Try putting that much in a size 5 shoe box!
I can't wait to see what size I'll wear in a few more years!

I must really be a mansion!

  1. ha-ha.. your too funny!
I had to laugh at the outhouse/mansion comment. I love the old sayings from way back..

I was a size 7 1/2 and after babies I am a 8 1/2. My mom warned me that your feet grow too..

You must be tall. I have tall guy friends that wear size 16, and they have to be special ordered..

Isn't it great to all be different shapes and sizes.. If we were not, then we'd be fighting over shoes, clothes and we'd all look the same.. :)

  2. I LOVE the mansion/outhouse analogy. What a great uncle! It is so weird that shoe size is an issue with women. Who cares? Next thing you know people will be getting foot reductions. Ew.

  5. I'm 5'7 with a size 9 shoe and my feet are still bigger than women who are taller than me. I joke with them why they don't fall down because of their small feet.

I say that women with big feet tend to be smarter, more stable, more creative, more fun....love your blog!

  6. Who cares what size your feet are...only you; no one else notices. But I'm thankful to have a mansion for a friend...I don't know if I would like an outhouse? Cute blog...Love Debbi

  8. "Heel"arious! (Get it?)
My feet have also gotten bigger with each pregnancy (hey, so has everything else! Good thing I'm done with that!)
My mom refuses to wear white shoes because my grandpa would always make comments about white shoes and big feet!

  10. This was SO FUN. I'm about a 9 1/2 - 10. (My feet didn't grow during my pregnancies.) Love the thought about the foundation. Never thought about how much more you can get in the shoeboxes.

  11. Connie, your sense of humor is awesome! Thanks for making me laugh this morning!

It is amazing how much feet grow. When I got married I was about a 7- 7-1/2 and now I am an 8-1/2 or 9 (depending upon the shoe style).

Very grateful for my feet that can take me to see such amazing, wonderful things in this world.

LOVED your Salsa recipe...I can't wait to give it a try.

    Have a wonderful, happy, weekend!
