1. My purse
If you've followed my blog, you know that I took a fanny pack to China. "Hands free, valuables close", that was my motto. Even though I want people to think that's my every day bag, it's not - but it's still fun to pretend. (Is that abnormal enough?)
2. Debit card:
I seldom carry much cash. I remember as a child, having a dime in my pocket at all times in case I needed to make a phone call. That brings me to the next thing I can't leave home without.
3. Cell Phone:
Even if I don't make a phone call, I have every family member's phone number, my calendar and camera in my phone. It's my brain!
4. Hand Sanitizer:
I don't think I'm a germ-a-phobe but maybe I am. It's nice to know I can eat some peanut M&Ms with clean hands when I open a package in the store! :)
5. Lip gloss
I need something on my lips, if not some color from the lip gloss then the moisture from chap stick.
That's me. Just plain old boring.
One more thing:
I made the sauerkraut cake and I have a few words to say about it:
Don't be afraid to make it!
It's moist, dense, chocolatey, flavorful and it's good enough to serve to guests. I took it to my Weight Watcher's meeting to serve to all the losers there! Although taking a cake to a meeting like that is a little unorthodox, it's a WW recipe so it's got to be lower in calories, right? The people there loved it but then they probably haven't had cake in the past few months. Anything would taste good!
Here's the simple recipe, in case you want to try it. I say - go for it!!
DARK CHOCOLATE CAKE
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/3 cups sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
1/2 cup melted butter
1 1/2 cups hot water
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 cup sauerkraut, pureed until smooth
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Coat a Bundt pan with cooking spray.
In a large mixing bowl, combine dry ingredients. Add melted butter, hot water and vanilla, mix well. Add sauerkraut and blend thoroughly.
Pour batter into prepared pan; bake in center of oven until cake is done, about 55 to 60 minutes. Cool cake in pan for about 20 minutes and then turn out onto a baking rack to cool completely. Sprinkle with cocoa powder or powdered sugar before slicing into 14 pieces.
As you can see, I dolled it up a bit for the Hubs. Even on a paper plate it looks good.
Eat your vegetables!
That cake looks amazing! I don't even own hand sanitizer. I am convinced I will be alive with the cockroaches in 2012 because I have a healthy, built up immune system, since I like to expose myself to so many germs.
ReplyDeleteNothing very strange on that list. I guess you're pretty normal. :)
ReplyDeleteThe cake sure looks good, but I'd be a little afraid to try it. Glad it was a hit.
How about sharing that cake with losers in American Fork??
ReplyDeleteNothing so strange on that list - but as you know I LOVE your fanny pack - LOL!!
ReplyDeleteThe cake looks yummy - Glad it turned out.
I love Camille's comment! Also, I just wanted to let you know that fanny packs are coming back in! Not necessarily with an 80's design but still...
ReplyDelete"All the losers there!" Now that really cracked me up! Thanks for the laugh!
ReplyDeleteI love your fanny pack. It reminds me of China. Happy your cake turned out so well.
ReplyDeleteI laughed out loud when I read, "the people there loved it but then they probably haven't had cake in the past few months"
ReplyDeleteI'm not a sauerkraut fan, but may have to give it a try.
Have a fabulous day.
You are funny..
ReplyDelete"I took it to my Weight Watcher's meeting to serve to all the losers there!"
Inside your purse looks pretty normal.
This tag would NOT work for men because I don't bring a darned thing with me. Except of course, for my 80's Transformers fanny pack. I wear that everywhere. I should LIVE in China.
ReplyDeleteYou RoCK the fanny pack!!
ReplyDeleteReally, I think it might be a trend that you could start.
Or not.
I hate to admit it but the cake sorta looks good.
Who knew?
Love your lists of things you won't leave home without.
You are a little bit abnormal.
Like the part about opening the peanut M&M's at the store. I mean really, who does that?
Oh, ya well....I do.
Gotta keep your strength up for shopping right?
I have to admit - you made that cake look scrumptious! I'm so glad you said you had to have lip gloss - that's one of my must-haves too. Can't stand having chapped lips! I'll go without every other makeup item but that.
ReplyDeleteI carry hand sanitizer everywhere...it leaked in my bag last week which wasn't great.
ReplyDeleteYour cake looks amazing and i'm just about to copy the recipe...Hubby will love it. Thank you.
Thanks for your comment on my blog. I don't mind the dentist but I remember when it used to be horrible to go. I also had one who had bad breath and a television set which he insisted on watching while supposedly drilling my teeth. It's a good thing they wear masks now.
Now, where's my pen?
Like I said before, I like sauerkraut but with chocolate?
ReplyDeleteI guess you would have to serve me some but not tell me what's in it until I am hooked.
Really.. your list would ALMOST be mine. -- But I'm a little more abnormal. :)
ReplyDelete~ And thanks for the cake review! :)
I'm a basic kind of gal too. Would rather not haul a big purse around. Lots of times it's a debit card and a phone in my pocket and I'm ready to go. I'm doing WW online. You're right, that cake sounds pretty good since it's been awhile since I've had some. Do you know how many points? Mimi
ReplyDeleteI can't leave home without my camera or my notebook, either. I feel kind of lonely without them...
ReplyDeleteTotally dig the fanny pack!
ReplyDeleteAnd I can't even go to bed without my phone. It goes right under my pillow.
Interesting cake~ I will consider making it.
ReplyDeleteLove the fanny pack!
Sauerkraut in cake.... Hmmmmm. Well, it's combines with chocolate so that HAS to be good!!
ReplyDeleteI carry most of the same things, but I like to forget my phone once in a while. It's nice to be "off the grid" for a couple hours and be totally unreachable. (Does that mean I'm a bad person?)
That cake looks amazing. I love sauerkraut, but would never have thought of putting it in a cake. May have to try it.
