I went to a Sinclair gas station a few days ago. I had never been to that gas station before but the price was 6 cents cheaper than the station across the street so I decided to save a dollar and fill up there. (A dollar saved is a dollar earned...or something like that)
I swiped my debit card but the pump didn't work. So I canceled the transaction and tried again. Still no luck. I drove to another pump, swiped my card and pumped out the ridiculously expensive liquid.
I checked my bank statement online today. Guess what! I was charged $1.00 for every swipe I made with my debit card! Really?
So much for saving a dollar! I've never had this happen before. Have you?
Holy Moly...
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't seem legal.
I have heard of gas stations putting a $50.00 hold on debit cards, just until the transaction clears (which is usually just a few minutes)but I have never heard of a dollar fee for trying to get gas.
Makes me think it's time to go back to an all cash system.
Watch and see if it's credited in a few days. I know my gas station automatically runs $1 through, just to make sure the card is valid or whatever, and then the actual amount spent shows up a day or two later. If it doesn't get credited, I'd tell your bank!
ReplyDeleteOh my heck..well, that is one of those GRRRRR moments for sure! ;)
ReplyDeleteSo, even when you saved you lost?
ReplyDeleteBummer.
That really is sneaky, I'd be calling the bank on Monday!
ReplyDeleteAmazing the things some companies do to get our money. They were so hoping you wouldn't notice!
ReplyDeleteIs that supposed to happen?? Do we get charged everytime we swip our card. Guess I'll have to start paying attention.
ReplyDeleteYou could have had 3 more dollars worth of gas.
dang
I've never had that happen! Call the bank and have the charges backed off. That can't be right.
ReplyDeleteNope, I haven't experienced that one yet!
ReplyDeleteWHAT A RIPOFF! :/
OH MY WORD.... WOW! I can't believe that. Phone call on Monday I'm sure. I'll remember that the next time I visit the Sinclair.
ReplyDeleteI have never herd that before. I agree that you should call your bank, as that just isn't right.
ReplyDeleteIt probably happens to us all but we are not smart enough to check it like you. DOWN with the MAN!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the other ladies... Call your bank on Monday.
ReplyDeleteThat's crazy! You should complain!
ReplyDeleteAnd no, I haven't had that happen, but I rounded my sales tax down by one penny instead of rounding up (by mistake - an honest mistake) and had the Ok Tax Commission charge me a whopping $13.59 in penalties and interest. All over a silly penny! And that's pretty crazy, too! I cut people a little slack all the time when they are a coupel of bucks, short, so you wouldn't think a penny would be so important.
I too would call the bank and complain. I have had charges reversed before. My goodness!! As if the price of gas isn't bad enough!!
ReplyDeleteIt will clear off, I bet. Evil gas pumps. It went up overnight too!!!
ReplyDeleteThat should be against the law. Seriously!
ReplyDeleteThat just isn't right!!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry.
I think I'd be calling the bank ASAP!!!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a business from Malaysia.
