A First!

I'm a late bloomer.  Yesterday, in the mail, I got something that I've never had before!

That's right, my passport!
Posing for the passport picture, I was told I could smile, just can't show any teeth.  I look like a chipmunk!  But it's all good!

According to the literature that came with the passport the world is now mine!!
Until 10 years ago, I had never been farther east than Colorado.  In June I'm going to the Far East.  I'm going to China!  I'll be traveling with my friend, Lorie, and meeting our friend, Joan, who lives there with her husband.   I hope my husband and kids don't realize they can get along without me!  I'm scared AND excited!
I have a feeling, getting the passport won't be the only "first" in this adventure!
Tell me about your traveling adventures!

Sounds exciting and scary...China!! Good Luck!!

I'm not a huge fan of traveling. I suppose if I had extra cash just laying around, traveling would be much more fun!! I've been to New York and San Diego. I've flown twice!! That's it!! My dream trip is seeing New England in the Fall.

My BIL just went to Beijing to live for a year. His wife will join him as soon as her passport comes in. I think that would be such an adventure.

You are going to have the trip of a lifetime. I can't wait to go along with you via this blog :)

Connie, I am SO excited for you! I'm looking forward to getting my first-ever passport in the next year or so, and I can't wait to put it to use. I'm eager to hear about your China trip. Talk about an adventure!

How exciting! I've been thinking a lot about how I haven't really traveled a lot. Just to NYC, several times, and on the west coast. I hope to someday get to a financial position to do it more.

Wow-China! How exciting. I went there during the '08 Olympics and it was amazing. If I were you, I'd pack a bunch of granola bars or other travel-worthy foods to eat as you travel. Then again...I'm a picky eater and would've died without it:)

Where all are you going?

Yes, it's about time you get out of the country! :)

The only place I ever went that required a passport was the Bahamas. Not too shabby...

Good luck! And don't worry, we'll be anticipating your return!

How exotic!! China...my friend went to China and brought back a beautiful little girl! She said the orphanages are full of GIRLS because they are only allowed 1 child and boys carry on the family name...oh so sad! She went back 3 TIMES! (and she already had 4 kids of her own!)
My travel adventures are few and far between and not very far...but I hope someday...!

How exciting! I know you'll have a grand time. It will be great to hear about your adventures! :)
I love to travel, but haven't been too far! We have been to Cabo San Lucas (for a work convention) and Rick and I went to DisneyWorld in Florida (that was my firt time flying).
Our favorite family trips have been to South Dakota to see Mount Rushmore and our trip down the Oregon Coast.
I really want to go to New York. We'd love to fly out and then drive back and throw in a Church History kind of tour. I also want to go to Hawaii. Cherie has made Europe look so inviting...and I bet China will be enticing too!
I read Joan's blog and she is quite adventurous, so I bet you'll have a marvelous time!

Woohoo. That is FABULOUS. China is a wonderful place. I'm so excited for you. I can't wait to read about your preparations and your trip. Just practice your squats--the toilets are interesting ; )

There is a great big beautiful world out there--so many wonderful things to see.

WOW...good for you! I can't even imagine the excitement of getting to go to China.

I'm sure your hubby and kids will realize real fast how much they MISS you!!

My hubby and I have been to Florida, California, Nevada, Colorado and on 2 cruises (Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan).

One of our reasons for being so adamant about getting out of debt, is we want to travel and see the world and I would love to go and give aid and help to people in other countries. I wish that I had the time and resources to be helping out the people in Haiti right now.

So, is this a FUN trip? I can't wait to see and hear all of the details. I am SO proud of you for having such an adventurous spirit and for your love to learn! You inspire me! Happy week!

I am not much of a traveller myself. I have only been out of the county once, and that was to Canada before you had to have a passport.
Colorado is about as far east as I have really been except for once on the way to Colorado we had to fly all the way to St. Paul to switch planes. I don't really count it since I only saw the airport.
I think you are brave! And I bet you will have a wonderful time!

Wow! You hadn't been more east than Colorado until 10 years ago?? I can't imagine that! I grew up moving all over the U.S. I've lived in California, Utah, Ohio, Georgia, North Carolina, and Florida and we went on road trips from one side of the country to the other many times. When I was a teenager living in Ohio, my parents took us up to the French-speaking part of Canada. Of course, no passport needed. I've been twice to Ecuador to visit my in-laws (stopping over in the airports in Mexico and Costa Rica, but I don't count those). I hope to visit many other countries some day. We have relatives in Spain so that might be our first stop...someday.

Congrats on this HUGE trip coming up. How very exciting!!!

How exciting!!!!!!You will love it. China is a vast, varied, and beautiful country.
I was actually born in China. Moved to the U.S. when I was a little girl. We got to go for a visit in 1997 and it was so much fun.
Where will you be going? Can't wait to read all about it.

LUCKY YOU!!!! What a wonderful thing to do for yourself. I don't have a passport. I did as a small child. But when you don't go anywhere but Yellowstone, why have one. hahahaha

oooo! Lucky lady! I almost signed up for a Passport -- just for kicks and giggles and then chickened out. I would feel bad just having it sit around and not getting any stickers in it.
One time, 20 years ago, my hubby and I drove to northern Idaho to check out the university, so we drove across the border into Canada so I could say I've been out of the country. That's my one and only time to leave the good 'ole U.S. of A.
China sounds very adventerous. I'm excited for you!

Oh how very exciting! I went to China after graduating college, but I have a feeling you'll have a more authentic experience (mine was part of a cruise so much was Americanized). Have a GREAT time!
