Spoke Too Soon?

After my last post about flowers, sun and Spring, we woke up to THIS on Sunday morning! Six inches of heavy, wet snow.  See the tree on the right?  That's our apricot tree that was filled with blossoms.  I don't think we'll be having apricots this year.  Mixed emotions...

Here are my poor, beaten daffodils.

Conference weekend is always a fun weekend filled with family, food, fun and, oh yeah, conference!   I always make cinnamon rolls during this weekend.
I used the Lion House Pantry roll recipe to make these delicious rolls...

...and frosted them with cream cheese frosting. Yum!

Here's a snippet of what happens when the guys go to Priesthood Meeting on Saturday night. This activity was after homemade pizzas and a healthy dose of sugar!

Hawaiian Haystacks for dinner on Sunday.   Is this a wish for a warmer place on a snowy day?

Conference weekend fills me physically and spiritually.

  3. Sorry about the snow! I hope your apricots will be OK. Maybe the snow insulated them.
As I recall you were BEGGING for people to take them off your hands last year.

    The Hawaiian Haystacks look nummers.
What do you do for the gravy?

Looks like some serious fun at the Langston household!

  4. Tauna, I use my bottled chicken, cream of chicken soup and chicken bouillon. I add water and let it simmer in the crockpot. It was delicious!

  10. Gig, I'm emailing you right now to explain Hawaiian Haystacks. You'll love 'em!
Oh yes, one more thing for Tauna. For the past 7 years I have begged people to take the apricots off my hands and grass! That's why the mixed emotions. Part of me want to shout Hooray! The other part (very little part) wants to make another batch of apricot jam.

  12. Connie, I'm glad you posted this. Like Cherie I wondered if it snowed Saturday night in Utah. Saturday when they showed shots of temple square, I was amazed at all the popcorn on the trees and how beautiful it was. Then on Sunday everything was covered with snow. I wondered if they were shots on file or live shots. Now I know it was live shots.

Spring snow is sad - especially on spring flowers and popcorn trees. :-(

  13. The weather is indeed strange. We had a lot of wind!! Crazy 5 minute blizzards and then 5 minutes of sun and then back to snow...all weekend long.

It was a great conference!! So glad your weekend was good!

  14. Wow... you guys really got a dose of winter. One of our friends spent conference weekend in S.F. and told us that they had got a ton of snow. I can appreciate your mixed emotions about the apricots.
Conference was wonderful! I always say that though..... but only because it's true :)
Have a great day....I hear more stormy weather is on it's way.

  20. I am glad some of the snow melted but it's so cold again.
I remember the first time I saw Hawaiian haystacks here in Utah (I didn't grow up here) and I thought it was a strange mixture of foods, but it's good!

  22. After an hour of work, Mark finally got the blogs to work. Even the high tech site has been blocked the last couple weeks. I think you might be doing a little dance in your backyard instead of picking apricots!

  23. After how beautiful it was on Saturday to wake up to the snow, just about put me over the edge. THE EDGE I TELL YA!

And between entertaining a 4 year old and doing laundry(gasp on the sabbath) I didn't catchb much conference. WIll be eagerly awaiting the printed word.

  24. I too would like this recipe.
    Please share.

I am not in love with the snow either. -- Especially because we have so much water already...

Why is it we always are in a drought.. or in a flood watch.

    Can't we just have NORMAL?

    Please pass the rolls.

  26. I'll have to have my husband look up the recipe for cinnamon rolls (Lion House Pantry)as he is on his quest for a perfect cinnamon roll. I LOVE them.

I love hawaiian haystacks too. My family makes them a fair amount when we all get together. So dang good.

When I lived in West Jordan, we had a huge apricot tree...and I LOVED the blossoms, but I was thrilled when they got "froze" and we had only a few apricots...cause I was so sick and tired of picking up those nasty squishy things off the lawn. I begged for people in the ward to come pick them.

  27. I should've come to your house for conference breakfast! I know you all are tired of the snow, but it truly was a treat for me. Everything looked so beautiful with the white covering.
