Slow and Steady...

This is my new motto since I've been training for the half marathon.

I'm NOT a fast runner.  I believe Tauna calls it a slog (slow jog).  I figure as long as I'm out moving, I'm doing OK.  I just finished week 3 of training and ran 7.4 miles yesterday.  I think my mind is telling my body to go slowly to conserve energy for the miles ahead.  I'm down with that but wish I could step it up for a 5K! Oh well, at least I'm not standing still.

I want to share the new additions to my kitchen. These salt and pepper grinders are awesome! They have a magnet on the back (the side without eyes) and they hang on the back of my stove for easy access.  With just one hand I can have my scrambled eggs covered in black or white or both!   Target has them for $9.99 each but these were purchased in Park City at the Outlet Mall for half that.

One more thing to share.  This triple berry salsa recipe, taken from the Taste of Home Healthy Cooking magazine, is delicious!  The picture was taken the day after I made it so the berries look a little...limp.  But it's still good!

Triple Berry Salsa
1 1/2 cups fresh blueberries
3/4 cup chopped fresh strawberries
3/4 cup fresh raspberries
1 medium tomato, chopped
1 small sweet yellow pepper, chopped
1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
1/4 cup minced fresh cilantro
1 jalapeño, seeded and minced
2 green onions, chopped
1 Tbsp. cider vinegar
1 T olive oil
2 tsp. lime juice
2 tsp. orange juice
1 tsp honey
1/4 tsp salt
In a large bowl combine the first 9 ingredients.  Whisk the remaining ingredients.  Drizzle over salsa; toss to coat.  Chill. Serve with tortilla chips.
Perfect for the summer barbecues ahead.

Just keep moving!

I'm so impressed with your running - I would love to be able to do that but my "joint-ritis" says "nay-nay." So I walk instead. Keep it up! That salsa looks so pretty I'll have to try it for one of my upcoming summer meals - I do love a fruity salsa!

Props on the running, even if you do call it slogging. At least it's something. I've never managed to work up the will to be a consistent exerciser. Let alone runner.

I'm so impressed! I'm not a fast runner either, but the most I've ever run at one time was about 5 miles. It felt like I was running forever, haha!

Thoes shakers are so much fun! :)

At least you "slog". If I were to go out on a run it would be more like the "death crawl." I think I need to work on it!

those s&p grinders are very fun!

Good luck!

You are doing great with your running. Way to go. And yes, slow and steady is the key.

The salt shakers are very cute.

Thanks for the recipe--looks yummy. Can't wait to try it.

Lovin those salt and pepper shakers!

And I recently found out that genetically some of us have more slow-twitch muscles and some of us have more fast-twitch muscles.

You can develop more of the ones you lack, but genetically you are designed to either be fast and not able to last long distances, or the reverse, able to do distance but not very fast.

Make ya feel any better?

"At least you're doing it." A quote by my very good friend, whenever I tell her how slow I am to getting anything done lately.
It's true! At least you're doing it! Way to go! I'm sure you can hear me cheering you on from the bottom of my heart !

Take it easy. When I did my first half marathon, I had to keep reminding myself that the race was not with time, but actually finishing. You, my friend, will do great though.

Hey, my daughter has a Taste of Home cookbook that she uses all the time, and she LOVES it. She makes the best things from it.

I am proud of you "slogging along". you are right...you are moving and progressing and that is Enough sometimes.

You inspire me every time I visit your blog Connie!!

I love your zest for life...it is contagious!

On my bucket list is that I want to run a marathon at least once in my life, but I am NOT a runner. Jade loves to run and wants us to take up running and run with him. SO, we have set a goal to run the Teton Dam Marathon in June 2013 which is a the year when Jade will graduate from high school. (I may only be running the 1/2 marathon, but I'm going to run in it no matter what).

I've got a lot of work to do to be conditioned for it, but I have a wonderful friend named Connie who has inspired me that it is never too late to take up running and to RUN 5K, 10K and 1/2 marathons. I think it is so awesome that you are out there running, competing and enjoying life!!

AWESOME that you ran 7.4 miles!! I'm going to be doing lots of "Slogging" myself.

You are truly one of my favorite people! Hope you are enjoying your summer!

OH and I forgot to say THANKS for sharing your yummy berry salsa with us. Can't wait to try it out. Looks delicious and will be SO yummy to try out this summer for picnics and summer barbeques!

It's definitely been printed and is in a stack of "must make recipes" this summer!

I love berries and have never had anything like this. Sounds yummmmmy!

I love that saying. I feel like I'm going so slowly with my classes, but I have to remind myself that I am not standing still, so I'm doing okay. :)
