Easy Livin'

Gershwin wrote a song that was sung in the opera, "Porgy and Bess". The words are:
"Summertime and the Livin' is Easy"
I don't know about you but Summertime isn't always easy livin'.  Between gardening, mowing lawns, teaching summer school, planning a wedding, sewing 7 dresses, training for a half marathon and the myriad of activities that accompany summer, I hardly have time to blog! :)  But I love it!

Here are a few activities that took place over the weekend.

Some of the grandkids were in the Lehi Days Parade on Friday and Saturday.  Since this picture was taken with my phone, it's hard to see the details, but you get the idea.

Ad is playing T Ball this year...

...and so is the Corbanator.

A sprinkler under Grandma's trampoline makes for a fun activity for Em, Cy and Kels...

...especially when the temperature is over 90.

Here are my new shoes.  They're called Altra - Zero Drop.  Notice how much lower the heel is compared to most brands of running shoes. The heel and toe are the same distance off the ground which means less heel strike and allows the foot to land soft and natural, similar to barefoot.

The toe is round to allow more room.  If you remember the shape of my foot, you know I need more room in the toe.  I'm supposed to alternate between this shoe and my old shoe for the first few weeks so my foot and body will get used to the difference.  I went for a 3 mile run yesterday and shaved 2 minutes off last week's time.  Was it the shoe or was it all in my head?  Not sure but I'll take it!

If you're familiar with this shoe, let me know your thoughts.  Oh yeah, I also signed up for a running class.
Summer just keeps getting better!

Looks like you have plenty to keep yourself busy.

Cool shoes. Hope they are great for you. Wow--shaving 2 minutes off of a 3 mile run is amazing.
I hope you enjoy your running class.

OK. You are making my tired ache!
I feel like a lazy slob next to you.....so I'm moving one person away....so I'm not next to you looking all slobby and stuff.

You are amazing. I think you shaved off the time but you are just that good!

When is your wedding? SO STRESSFUL.
Sewing 7 dresses? Really? What are you doing in your spare time? Oh ya, a marathon.

You amaze me!

I'm in awe at the distance you run. That is amazingly awesome.
As busy as summertime is, I love it all too. It's the fun kind of busy.

Sounds like an amazing Summer so far! New shoes do make you feel like you could go on and on. That looks like a good one. I love the Asics for walking, they never hurt my foot at all. :D

This makes me really excited for our Murray 4th of July parade.

I too just got some new running shoes. They are K-Swiss "Tubes". They have tubes on the bottom. Really cool.

Hey, SuperMom/Grandma. How does it look from up there on top of that pedestal? Seriously, you're amazing. Have you ever seen those funky shoes that wrap around each of your toes? Yours are MUCH cuter. (Because we all know that cute is important.)

You "signed up" for a running class...ON PURPOSE. (tee, hee) I admire and am jealous of all your get up and go.
Those shoes look great. My DIL (who is a physical fitness freak and runner) probably knows all about them (Matt's wife)
She said there is a whole new "outlook" on running.
She told me about a book a guy wrote/researched...how we should run with bare feet.
That is how man was meant to run. Never on your heels, but on the balls of your feet (or something like that)
So you are probably on the right track with those new shoes.

A busy summer can be fun. Except for the sewing of 7 dresses. ick.

I thought that at this stage of my life things would slow down a bit. But instead it just seems to get busier. In a good way of course! Have a great 4th with your cute family. Mimi

Glad the weather finally stayed warm long enough to enjoy the outdoors. Now it is very warm. I even got a sunburn today. :( Hope your feet love your new shoes.

More and more experts are saying running shoes are a farce, and that barefoot running is the most natural and less stressful way to go. When you have those higher heel parts you land wrong. My neighbor runs in those toe shoes (seen them?), and when I run on the treadmill I run barefoot. I Love It!

Your summer sounds great. My number 3 was in the Lehi parade playing the snare drum in the marching band for S'ville High.

Miss ya.

ps What I meant to say was that I think those new shoes look much better for running.
