What Name DID I Use?

We had a birthday party Monday evening for Jill.  On Saturday, I ordered a 6 foot sandwich for the occasion from Wal-Mart.  I had to make several phone calls to finally get the sandwich ordered, but that's OK, the task was accomplished and I didn't worry about it again...until...I got to Walmart just 20 minutes before the party was to begin, and found out the deli had no record of my order.
WM employee - "I'm sorry, are you sure the name is correct?  Could it be under the name, Bryan J?"
Me - "No, it's under my name and I ordered it on Saturday so it would be ready for pick up tonight!"
WM employee - "What other name could you have given?"
Me - "Just mine."
WM employee - "I'll call the manager1"
If the manager knew where my sandwich was located, I would be happy to talk to him, if not, why bother?
WM manager - "So, you ordered a sandwich?"
Me - "Yes."
WM manager - "When do you need it?"
Me - "Twenty minutes ago!"
WM manager, yelling back to the woman frantically working in the back, "How soon could you have this lady's sandwich?"
WM employee - "I can't fix it until after 6:00, I'm already working on an order that will be picked up at 6!"
Me - "That's too late!  The party starts in 5 minutes!"
WM manager - "What if we give it to you for free?"

At this point, I didn't know of any other options.  I could walk away and have nothing to take to the dinner and my poor children and grandchildren would starve on just watermelon, salad, chips, grapes, soup and birthday cake!  Or, I could hang out at Wally World for another 15 minutes and get a free 6 foot sandwich!  I agreed to wait.  (heavy on the greed)
After waiting another 40 minutes, the sandwich was ready.  The already frantic WM employee had thrown in another 3 foot sandwich!

I thanked her, ran out the door, and got to the party an hour late.  The sandwich was good, I appreciated the generosity of the WalMart manager, and we had lots of left-overs!

On the way home I had to stop at Wal-Mart again, only this time it was to pick up some photos I had sent in for the classroom.  I asked the WM employee behind the photo booth if she had my pictures.  I gave her my name and the approximate time I had sent in the order.  She looked through the drawer filled with photos, but didn't find it. She looked again and said, "Are you sure of the name?  Could it be under a different one?"
I walked away empty handed this time.

I can taste a giveaway coming up!

Free stuff is great; getting it super late is not.

Leftovers are most certainly the bomb...

Maybe you need to check your birth certificate to make sure you know what your name is!! ;-)

All I have to say, you were much calmer than I would have been!! Happy Day for FREE Stuff! :-)

Lesson learned=don't go to wal-mart. They'll forget your name. And steal your soul.

Oh, gosh, that made me nuts just reading it!!!! I'm not sure why W
-Mart can't get it right but this junk happens to me all the time but they usually have the right name they just didn't bother to do anything about my order.

Wait, this happened at Walmart? Wow, this seems so unlike them!

What was your name again?

OK seriously! I love this story.
You could be on the next "People of Walmart"
I wanna know what you were wearing.

Great story.

Valerie said... least the sandwich issue was resolved~ and no one starved. :)
Just remember to never order a Spiderman Birthday cake from them...

Yvonne said...

Glad it all got resolved.

I don't have a problem with giving the right name, but I have gone to the wrong Wal-Mart. (We have two that are different parts of the city but the same distance from our house and I have gone to pick up photos and got irritated when they couldn't find my order and then remembered I went to the other one ; )

Maybe it was your other self getting back at you for something.

LOL...sad but funny too! Maybe you should give a more exciting name next time like...Brad Pitt or Angela Jolie! :D

Charles Barkley said...

That's TURRIBLE! Just TURRIBLE! Use MY name next time and see what happens.

Camille said...

Maybe Charles should be the one PICKING UP the sandwich and see what WM does!

P.S. the giveaway isn't sandwich leftovers is it??

Kerin said...

We should picket! Demand better service and a customer bill of rights!
Maybe they'll serve us free donuts :)

You are SO great with your way of telling a story! I SO much enjoy reading your blog!!

So sorry that you were late with your sandwich to your event, but amazing that they gave it to you for FREE! That is truly remarkable service and the sandwich looks delicious!!

I hope you're having a great week and hope you get your photos you ordered! (wink)

Sheesh. They should have delivered it too. I am glad you got such a deal... I know you like those!

Cherie said...

Connie that is crazy that it happened twice! Seriously maybe those people cannot write in English.
It is GOOD to get free stuff though.
I am wondering if the other 6 ft. sandwich that woman was making was really yours - wouldn't that have been funny.
Crazy Wally World!

Mikki said...

I agree with Cherie, I think it IS your sandwich they were working on. I would have probably bopped the photo associate over the head when they asked if I had the name right, after the previous incident. Hope you get your photos soon, and yeah I hope the giveaway isn't leftovers!

Now you have celebrities commenting on your blog? You've made it to the big leagues now!!! And you have permission to use his name next time! Lucky! I bet he shops at Walmart All.The. Time!

My husband tried ordering a 6 ft sandwich at Subway the other day and had all kinds of trouble too. Must be something about the difficulty of taking down an order for sandwiches. Great story though!

I'd be ready to jump over the counter and strangle someone about now.

Maybe you need a New Name.

That sandwich looks yummy. I've never even thought to order anything from the WM deli. Might have to give it a try. Mimi

You tell a great story. The sandwich does look yummy, but oh what a big stress to go through.

Free is good.

Valerie said...

Totally crazy! Did you feel like you were in the Twilight Zone after the second time? I hope you got your pics by now!

Jenny said...

Free is always good, but never fully makes up for lack of service in my mind. Was it an automated system that took your order? I just want to avoid it in the future. This sounds like something that would happen to me.
