O Holy Night - 2 Versions

Just for the record, one of my favorite Christmas songs is, "O Holy Night".  Hearing Michael Crawford sing it brings goose bumps.  It's so...phantom-y!  Listen to that last "Noel" he sings!  It suspends in space, waiting to penetrate your soul!

According to Bob Wiley, "There are two types of people in this world, those who like Neil Diamond and those who don't!"   Neil Diamond is OK, but I don't like his rendition of this song.  His back up singers are awesome, though.

What do you think?

I do like the Crawford one. I have been practicing this song on the piano all this week.

I do NOT like Neil Diamond. I never have, but there is something that is just really annoying about a Jewish man singing Christmas songs which you know he doesn't believe in...so he's only in it for the money!

Bob Wiley was brilliant beyond his time.

And I absolutely LOVE Michael Crawford. There's something about his voice that is so beautiful. Thanks for sharing the link. I'll be listening to it lots today.

Beautiful!
I do lean towards Michael Crawford though.
I think my mom ruined Neil Diamond for me....... she played Neil Diamond records 24/7!
Have a wonderful weekend, and stay warm :)

By far, my favorite Christmas song is O Holy Night. It gives me chills everytime I hear it.

As for Neil Diamond, I can take him or leave him.

Have you heard Josh Groban sing O Holy Night?!?! Oh man. Wherever I am, I stop and just close my eyes and listen. Like the Michael Crawford version, the last notes send chills down my spine...I LOVE IT!!!

Neil used to be a fabulous singer. I love his old 70's music. I have hundreds of Neil songs on my iPod. I went to his concert many moons ago and had a blast. However, age and cigarettes and the continual wearing of polyester leisure suits have taken it's toll and I find myself wishing that he would bask in his millions and give his voice a rest.

I love most Christmas songs. Unfortunatly, I rarely know who is actually singing, if I don't love it I change the station.

I agree with you, Connie! Neil's version is too choppy and staccatoie (is that a word?) for me. I liked Michael Crawford's rendition & I really like Josh Groban's too!
This is one of my favorite Christmas songs as well. :)

I agree with you Connie. I wish they played this song more on the radio.I just got the Glee Christmas CD which is fun to hear the old songs sung by young people.

I like Michael's too and I used to like Neil but not now, sometimes one needs to know when to retire. ;D

I prefer Michael Crawford's version. I do like Neil Diamond, but I don't like that recording of O Holy Night--one of my favorite pieces of Christmas music.

I agree with you completely. Something about Neil Diamond is just not right for this, and I suspect, for a lot of Christmas songs. Not sure, though, since I haven't heard his other Christmas stuff. And yes, Michael Crawford just has that ethereal quality that can seem magical under any circumstances: spooky and majestic alike!
