Reindeer Food and Flower!

We set out cookies and milk for Santa on Christmas eve, but we don't always think about those poor reindeer!
My daughter, Camille, and her girls, made some reindeer food for Santa's hard-working team.

In a clear gift bag, put 2 cups of rolled oats.  Generously add some red and green sprinkles

Attach this poem to the bag:
Take this magic reindeer food and sprinkle on the lawn.
On Christmas, Santa's reindeer travel miles before the dawn.
The smell of oats and sugar path will guide them on their way.
And you'll wake up to Santa's gifts next morn on Christmas day!

Take these around to your neighbors so Santa's reindeer will be sure to visit your neighborhood!

Speaking of neighbor gifts, my daughter, Jill, made this adorable neighbor gift when she visited Thanksgiving Point.  She explains how to make it so much better than I can.

As you can see, it's a tin can, with pebbles in the bottom, soil, and a flower bulb. Add a piece of burlap and some greenery.  Since I tended her children while she visited Thanksgiving Point, she decided that I would be her neighbor!  I took the cute flower container home, watered it and loved it.
It bloomed into a beautiful flower!

However, it smells like cat urine! Not a pleasant smell! (That's an understatement)

Now, for all of you botanical experts, what kind of flower is this?  Wouldn't a daffodil bulb bloom just as well?

One more day left until Christmas!
Merry Christmas to all of you!

Merry Christmas, Connie.

(I always loved sprinkling the reindeer food--thought it was so fun and much more creative than just a carrot ; )

They're paperwhites! A Christmas flower. My mom loves them, but my dad cannot stand the odor!! It's so funny because every Christmas she gets them to celebrate the season, and he hates them so much, he's always grumbling under his breath about how much they stink. So funny! Well, enjoy the holidays, stinky or not! :)

Merry Christmas Connie! I love your reindeer food idea - it's just become a new tradition at my house! (you guys have the BEST ideas!) Some people must be more sensitive to the smell of paperwhites than others - I've never noticed that they smell bad... They are so beautiful though. And yes - I think daffodils would do the same thing, as well as crocus.

They do look like paperwhites and I love them too. I think it's a genetic thing whether you think they stink or like their smell. There are a couple of smells that are genetically linked so this might be one of them. (I just googled it, they say it's true) Anyway, I have a million things to do and I'm sitting here googling crazy things! Hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas. Mimi

Very nice idea for the neighbors, although is there a bulb that won't bloom a flower smelling like cat urine?

Merry Christmas!!! Hope your having an amazing day with your family.

Let me tell you how horrible of a person I am. Well I gave these to all of my neighbors but when MINE bloomed it was so vile I gave it away as a neighbor gift to a neighbor that bugs me. Because I am horrible like that and now all my neighbor's homes smell like cat urine.

I love the smell of cat urine. Reminds me of trailer parks. Now I see why they always smell like that! They all had that flower in their kitchen! It makes perfect sense.
