Handy Andy

Look what WE did!
As I've said before, WE means Andy!  I just stand around and take pictures.
We have a small guest room that used to be our daughter's/grandchildren's room.  It was in dire need of a makeover.  Andy decided to tackle the job.  This isn't the first time he's done this to a room but this is the one I'll show you today since WE just finished!

The yellow walls make this room bright and cheery.  In fact, my 3 1/2 year old granddaughter thought the light was on in the room as she walked past.

Now, this is where all of you come in.  The room is in need of decorating but I'm not sure what to do.  It's small but even a small room needs things on the wall and an accent color.  So...give me some ideas.  Please!

What should I do for a window treatment?  What color should I put with the yellow wall and white bead board?  Why am I such a flunkee when it comes to decor?  If you help me I'll be able to say, "Look what WE did!

One more Handy Andy project.
A bling holder!  This is much better than having my necklaces in small bags hiding in a basket!
It's always fun to see what WE can do!  I think I'll keep Andy around for a long time.

I'm certainly no decorator, but when my girlfriends painted Chloee's room, they also accented with the bedding and then of course her USMC flag. Red's and blue's with the yellow paint on the walls and I have to admit, it's dang cute!

I love love love yellow and I think a pop of red somewhere is always good!
Nice to get a room re-done :-D

I love that yellow on the walls. We're all going to confuse you with our different opinions, but I agree with Cherie - a pop of red is nice, but if your trim/beadboard is white, I might a bright green with accents of vivid blue instead. Think of a parrot or brightly colored bird. I wish I was there - I love to pick out colors.
One thing that may help: pick out a throw pillow in a print that incorporates the yellow with other colors you like. That will help you pick accent colors that will go well.

Love the yellow. I am a big fan of yellow and gray, but I think that room needs something more Shabby Chic. I would do maybe pastel pinks or blues.

The room looks pretty! I don't have many suggestions as I have white (gasp!) walls and not much decor. :)

Your husband did a great job!

I LOVE-LOVE the room!
The color.. the vintage/antique dresser... chair and the cute headboard! Oh my word!! ~ All so lovely!!!

With yellow.. their is so many colors that look good. It depends on what YOU like.
Blue looks great..Red looks great.

Of course I would do curtains over blinds.. but that is just me... haha.

Well done Andy!! Isn't it great to be married to a handy man??

Some Sassy curtains for sure! There are so many wonderful colors that go with yellow! Greens, Grays, blues and reds. I'd pick my favorite and then go with some of those colors for accents.
Andy is the best keeper of all!

Very cute! I love the color! As for decorating, I would check out these 2 links...

This is probably where I would go to brain storm if I were decorating my home.

Although I think the room is charmy the way it is! It just needs some curtains.

I'm with Cherie---red is always a good way to go for some fun color. It'll look especially nice with the yellow.

you know what my answer would be... PURPLE!!! It's so regal! but maybe not a good idea, unless you want someone to move back in! :) YOU GUYS did such a great job with the room!

Looks really good. I like the color and I am color blind. Not really, but maybe.

What a pretty room. Good job, you two. :) If I ever find time, I'm making something kinda like that for my necklaces too. You have such pretty colors!

Some random thoughts from my decorator... Find a picture or bed pillow that you really like by way of colors. So in your case you have a nice embroidery chair, pull from those colors as accent colors. Use the chair for inspiration. Look in different magazines and pick out the different things that stand out for you and start pulling those ideas together for your room. Pick pictures that pull out the colors in the chair. You have period furniture so look for decor in that period. If it is really a guest room, then you could create a spa feeling by doing a basket with plush towels & soaps so they have their own towels. Put classical reading books on the bed stand. A water carafe on the bed stand, giving it a bit of a B&B feel.

It is an empty canvas with a lot of potential. These are just some ideas to get you started.

HGTV is always a great source for good ideas.

Oh, yea, does Handy Andy hire out? :-)

Looks terrific! I love the beadboard paneling on the bottom too.
I like Kristina's ideas myself. I think some rose and sage colors to give it a that shabby chic feel.
Have fun with it! You've definitely got a keeper of a husband!

Oh good luck!
I am STILL waiting for someone to come decorate after my painting job TWO Christmasas ago.

I haven't painted a room in a long time. I would love to get one done!
My kitchen/dining room is yellow and we've accented it with sage green and lavender. To me, they are such soothing colors! But yellow is GREAT because it can go with so many colors...
Another idea.... (this just came to me) what about accenting with black and white and you can make the theme DAISIES?!?! How cute would that be?

It is such a wonderful thing having such a HANDY hubby!! (fun for you that you can call yours "Handy Andy")!

First off, LOVE the yellow color, love the white bead board wainscoat and the green bedspread.

I personally love PINK or HOT PINK with green, white and yellow. It is such a fun accent color. A white vase with some pretty pink flowers on the dresser, a floral print of pink, yellow and greens on the wall and maybe a floral valance above the window to tie all of the colors together. (just my opinion...I'm sure whatever you do will look great!)

LOVE your bling holder. I have one as well and it is SO nice to see what you have and to have such a nice way to display them. Looks so pretty as well! I love functional wall art!!

Thanks for your friendship...you are such a true friend and I enjoy very much all of your sweet comments you always leave me.

Hope you're having a great day!!

Sure, Andy can paint & build things...but how is he at unpacking boxes? :)

The room looks really great! Can't wait to see how you decide to decorate.

Wow, it looks like you have lots of great ideas to pick from. It will be interesting to see what accent colors you pick.
Love your bling holder. So many memories hanging there.

Purple or lavender is a great pairing color with yellow. Maybe some pressed flowers framed would look good.

The room looks great!! LOVE the yellow color on the walls!! It looks like you've got a lot of ideas already. Remember, there are no rules for decorating...except do what you want!! It's your room!! We are all individuals with different ideas and tastes, make the room YOU!! Good Luck!! Can't wait to see the finished product!

I love yellow cause it looks good with so many other colors. Red, green, blue, aqua. Love it! I think a few plates on a wall is kind of cute. Way cheap if you get them from the DI. Have a great conference weekend. Mimi

That is just how I store my necklaces too. Mine was suppose to be a belt rack but works perfectly for my jewelry.
